Sam Stafford – Varsity Head Coach 

Sam Stafford is entering his 1st year as the head of the girls volleyball program at CDM. He has been an assistant varsity coach for the girls program for the past 4 years and has been a part of the boys program for the last 10 years before taking over as head coach in 2019. Coach Stafford is in his 4th year as a middle school physical education instructor at CDM.

Coach Stafford has been a part of several CIF and State Championship teams as both a coach and a player. As a player Coach Stafford was a part of both the 2005 and 2007 CIF championship teams. As an assistant coach, he was part of the 2011, 2017, 2018 CIF championship teams. He was also a coach for the 2014 and 2015 State Regional Championship teams, and the 2011 and 2018 National Championship teams. Prior to his time at CDM Coach Stafford was an assistant to Dan Glenn for 6 years in the Girls’ Volleyball program at Newport Harbor High School. He has also coached with many accomplished volleyball coaches in the area; including Travis Turner, Rich Polk, and Andy Read. As a graduate of CDM in 2007, Coach Stafford is excited to lead the Girls’ program this year.

Bailey Kray – Varsity Assistant Coach

Bailey Kray returns for her 5th season with the Girls’ Volleyball program at CDM. She was the Frosh/Soph head coach in 2015 that went undefeated in league and took second place at the Newport Harbor Tournament. In 2016 her Frosh/Soph team took 2nd in league.

Bailey was born and raised in Corona del Mar and graduated from Mater Dei High School in 2011. Bailey played club volleyball from age 13-15 at Orange County Volleyball Club and from age 16-18 at TCA. She was the starting setter and team captain all 6 years at club. After graduating high school Bailey attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon from 2011-2015 where she played volleyball all 4 years.

Bailey has also coached club volleyball for many years at United Volleyball Club and Newport Lightning Volleyball Club. She has also assisted at Sage High School, Fountain Valley High School, and Bear Coast Volleyball Club. She is excited to continue helping the Girls’ volleyball program at CDM.

Sean Fallowfield – Varsity Assistant Coach 

Sean Fallowfield is entering his 1st year as assistant varsity coach for the Girls’ Volleyball program at CDM. Sean has been playing or coaching since 1981. He was a junior college player of the year in 1983 and led his team to the state championship while attending Santa Barbara CC. Sean then transferred to UCSB where he was a two time all American. After college Sean went on to have a 10+ career playing on the AVP and abroad. As a coach Sean has coached at all levels. Sean coached at Marymount High School where he won two CIF Division 1 championships and one state title. Sean has also had stints as a club coach at Sunshine and MB Surf where his teams were always in the top 5 and in medal contention. Most recently Sean spent 3 1/2 years at UCLA and was part of building the women’s beach program into a national powerhouse. Sean’s most recent assignment was moving to Italy to coach the national team of Italy for men’s beach volleyball. Sean currently resides in Newport Beach and is excited to coach with the girls volleyball program at CDM.

Junior Varsity Coach  – Brian Diniz

Brian Diniz returns for his 3rd year with the CDM Girls’ volleyball program. Brian was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He laster moved to Lake Forrest where he currently resides. In 2014 he graduated from Irvine High School. Brian played club volleyball for 6 years with OCVC where he battled with many winning teams. Brian continued his volleyball career at Orange Coast College as an Opposite hitter form 2014-2017. While at OCC his team won the State Championship in 2017. Brian is now attending CSUF studying graphic design. He previously coached club volleyball at UVC for the boys and girls program. He currently coaches the 16’s with Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and the 15’s at Orange County volleyball club.

Frosh-Soph Head Coach Kelly Burgess

Kelly Burgess is in her 1st year as head coach of the Frosh/Soph girls at CDM. She was previously assistant coach with the program alongside Bree Maloney. Kelly grew up in North Tustin where she attended Foothill High School(Go Knights!) Kelly played volleyball all four years at Foothill and also played club volleyball for OCVBC. Kelly attended Loyola Marymount University as an undergrad and then received her masters of teaching from USC. She has been teaching for the past 11 years and currently teaches in the math department at CDM. Kelly is a loyal supporter of the CDM Athletic Community and you can find her at most games cheering on her students. She is proud to be a Sea King!
